The $20 million, 64,000 square foot building includes:


  • Atrium - Extensively used for special events, receptions, dinners, lunches, poster presentations, etc.
  • Conference Room 115 - Meeting area for small groups
    • Seats ten comfortably
    • Seats twelve maximum at the conference table
    • White board
    • Pull-down screen
    • Plug-ins in conference table for internet access and power

  • Computational Genetics Laboratory - Sponsored by the University of  Minnesota Supercomputing Institute.
    • The lab is staffed by three Ph.D. consultants specializing in the areas of computational biology, computational genomics, proteomics and protein science.
    • Bioinformatics workshops and tutorials are scheduled throughout the academic year to train students, faculty, and staff in use of ~70 bioinformatics software packages licensed to MSI.

  • Environmentally-controlled Conviron Plant Growth Chambers - Two walk-in chambers (40sq') and ten reach-in chambers (16 sq').
    • Charges: $2/day for small chambers; $4/day for large chambers.

  • Bioinformatics Research Area - Floors two and three in the Pod
    • 16 workstations/floor.

  • Microbial fermentation lab space - Floor two genomics lab.
  • Robotic high throughput center for screening new biological compounds,  picking colonies, replating libraries, etc.

  • Gathering areas with writeable countertops or walls to foster collaboration
