8.  Post-doctoral Research Associate, USDA-ARS Robert Holly Center, Cornell University campus, Ithaca, NY
  • Topic: Characterization and positional cloning of a tomato fruit ripening locus
    Duration: 2 years
    Salary: $47,000/year plus benefits
    Starting date:  ASAP
Requirements:  US citizenship or permanent residency

Funds are currently available for a two-year postdoc emphasizing physiological characterization and positional cloning of a tomato fruit ripening mutation that severely inhibits ripening and is non-allelic to know ripening loci.  Preliminary mapping has localized the target locus to a chromosome arm and crosses have been made to appropriate wild-species introgression lines to facilitate genetic mapping.  Nearly isogenic lines are available for phenotypic analysis and physiological characterization of ripening.

In addition to positional cloning the incumbent will analyze physiological (time to ripening, time to full ripe, ethylene biosynthesis, carotenoid accumulation, textural changes) and molecular ripening phenotypes (the latter via microarray and qRT-PCR analyses).

A Ph.D. in plant biology, genetics or related fields is required as is US citizenship of permanent resident status.

The position is available immediately and women and minorities are encouraged to apply. CV and names/contact information of three references or further inquiries can be directed to Jim Giovannoni at jjg33@cornell.edu ph: 607-255-1414.
